Our History

An artistic destination amid whispers and charm...

Origins and connections with Buenos Aires

The Santa Emilia Palace was originally known as "Chalet do Granadeiro" thanks to the dream and vision of its developer, Mr. Manuel López Rivas, who was married to Miss Mancebo.

Both families shared a deep connection with the world of letters and printing, a bond that has been maintained throughout generations to this day. Venturing to Buenos Aires, Manuel founded a thriving shirt business that competed with Harrods' only branch in the world in the Argentine capital. It was thanks to his successes in Argentina that he was able to finance the construction of the Indian palace, a project begun in 1924, imbued with the magic of literature and the mystery of untold stories.

Buenos Aires

The era of painting and literary gatherings

In 1933, the house changed hands and became the property of Doña Auxiliadora, Mendez's wife.

It was then that the palace became a canvas for art and creativity. José Armando, son of Auxiliadora and a charismatic man with a love of the law, entered the world of painting, leaving his mark on more than 40 paintings that now adorn the walls of Santa Emilia. Pepín, as he was known to his friends and family, turned the palace into a sanctuary for gatherings and social events where illustrious figures such as Álvaro Cunqueiro would lose themselves in passionate conversations about art and culture.

Our History - Mondoñedo

The musical rebirth of Santa Emilia

The melody of destiny resonated in the Santa Emilia Palace when Juan Rezzuto, a virtuoso Argentine pianist and teacher, walked through its doors.

Founder of WKMT London, one of the most prestigious piano schools in the British capital, Rezzuto decided to settle in Mondoñedo with his partner Victor, thus beginning the era of music in the palace. Santa Emilia acquired her third name in honor of Maestro Rezzuto's grandmother, who inspired his musical abilities and ignited the spark that drove this new adventure.
